  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 lb strawberries or other fruit of choice Fresh fruit is preferred; can use other fruits like apples, grapes, or pineapple.

Preparation

  • Wash and pat dry your strawberries or chosen fruit.
  • Arrange the fruit on bamboo skewers, using 1-3 pieces per skewer.

Cooking

  • In a pot, bring the water and sugar mixture to a boil.
  • Use a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the sugar water mixture. Boil until it reaches 300 degrees Fahrenheit, which usually takes about 5-10 minutes.
  • Once the sugar mixture is at the right temperature, dip your fruit skewer into the hot syrup to coat the fruit.
  • Place each fruit skewer on a sheet pan, silicone baking sheet, or parchment paper.

Serving

  • The sugar coating should harden almost immediately, making it ready to enjoy.

Notes

Store leftover tanghulu in an airtight container at room temperature. The sugar coating may lose its crunch if stored in the fridge.
