Ingredients
  

For the Patties

  • 1.5 pounds lean ground beef
  • 0.25 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary (minced)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce divided
  • 1 medium onion (thinly sliced or chopped)

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian bread crumbs, minced rosemary, and 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.
  • Divide the meat mixture into four parts and shape them into oval patties.

Cooking

  • Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 teaspoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side until fully cooked. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Add sliced onions to the same skillet and cook over medium heat until tender and browned.
  • Add beef broth, remaining 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and season with salt and pepper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of the skillet liquid to make a paste, then whisk this into the beef broth mixture.
  • Bring gravy to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  • Return hamburger patties to skillet, allowing them to heat through in the gravy.

Serving

  • Serve hot, either with mashed potatoes or over rice.

Notes

To store leftovers, let cool and transfer to an airtight container, refrigerate for up to 3 days. Reheat in microwave, adding beef broth to keep gravy moist. Consider adding soy sauce for extra flavor.
