For the waffles

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon or more to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

For the cream cheese glaze

  • 4 tablespoons room temperature butter
  • 2 ounces softened cream cheese
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

  • Preheat your waffle iron.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cinnamon.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla.
  • Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and combine well.

Cooking

  • Spray the waffle maker with non-stick cooking spray, then add ½ cup of batter to the center.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the waffles are golden brown.

Making the glaze

  • For the cream cheese glaze, mix the butter, softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the finished waffles.

Notes

Serve warm topped with cream cheese glaze, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of extra cinnamon. For extra flavor, add nuts or raisins to the batter and experiment with different glazes.
