  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 lb. ground chicken (ground chicken breast recommended)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups pasta sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 6 pieces hamburger buns
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Add the oil to a large skillet and place it over medium-high heat.
  • Add the onion. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
  • Add the ground chicken. Break it apart with a wooden spoon. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is no longer pink.
  • Pour in the pasta sauce and stir until well mixed. Reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve the chicken mixture spooned onto hamburger buns and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Notes

Serve hot with optional toppings like fresh basil or extra grated Parmesan cheese. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or in the microwave when ready to eat.
