  • 1.5 tablespoons dry active yeast Can substitute with instant yeast.
  • 1.5 tablespoons sea salt
  • 6.5 cups whole wheat flour Use 100% whole wheat flour for the best flavor.

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, mix the warm water, dry active yeast, and sea salt. Stir until the yeast dissolves.
  • Gradually add the whole wheat flour, one cup at a time, mixing until you have a smooth dough.
  • Knead the dough for about 10 minutes on a lightly floured surface until it is elastic and smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough to release air bubbles. Shape it into a loaf and place it in a greased bread pan.
  • Cover the pan and let the dough rise again for about 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, bake it in the oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Store in an airtight container or a bread bag at room temperature. For longer storage, slice and freeze. Experiment with additional ingredients like nuts or dried fruits for varied flavor and texture.
