  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste
  • ¼ cup orange juice Freshly squeezed is best
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 Zest from one orange Adds extra flavor

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine fresh cranberries, granulated sugar, orange juice, water, and orange zest.

Cooking

  • Over medium-low heat, cook the mixture until the sugar dissolves and the cranberries begin to soften.
  • Increase the heat to medium and continue to stir and cook for another 5-6 minutes until the cranberries burst.
  • Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about a week or freeze for longer storage. Let cool completely before freezing. For a smoother sauce, blend it after it cools. You can adjust the sugar to taste and experiment with spices like cinnamon or cloves.
