Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 6 slices diced thick-cut bacon Use thick-cut for better texture.
  • ½ medium sliced yellow onion
  • 6 cups chopped green cabbage Chop into even-sized pieces for even cooking.

Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt Adjust to taste.
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Adjust to taste.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, add the diced thick-cut bacon and cook until fried and crispy, about 7-8 minutes.
  • Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside.
  • Remove most of the bacon grease from the skillet, but leave 2 tablespoons of bacon grease for cooking the onion and cabbage.
  • Add the sliced yellow onion and chopped green cabbage to the skillet. Cook and stir until tender, about 8 minutes.
  • Season with granulated sugar, kosher salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Add the cooked bacon back to the skillet and stir to combine.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

For a vegetarian version, skip the bacon and use olive oil or butter. Add garlic or red pepper flakes for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4-5 days.
