Ingredients
  

For the cookie dough

  • 1 cup butter (softened) Make sure butter is softened to room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 pieces eggs
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup sour cream Low-fat sour cream can be used, but may change texture.
  • 3 cups flour

For the frosting

  • ½ cup butter (softened)
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla For frosting.

Instructions
 

Sugar Cookie Dough

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened butter and 1 cup of sugar until smooth.
  • Add in the 2 eggs and ½ teaspoon of vanilla, mixing well.
  • In another bowl, combine the baking soda, salt, baking powder, and flour. Gradually add this to the butter mixture, alternating with the ½ cup of sour cream. Mix until well blended.

Cut Out and Bake Cookies

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters.
  • Place cookies on a greased baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until lightly golden.
  • Let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Cream Cheese Icing

  • In a new bowl, beat together ½ cup of softened butter and 4 oz. of cream cheese until smooth.
  • Gradually add in the 3 ½ cups of powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of vanilla, mixing until creamy and well combined.

How to Serve

  • Once cookies have cooled, frost them generously with cream cheese icing. Add sprinkles or colorful decorations for a festive touch.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to two weeks. Serve at room temperature for best taste. Dough can be chilled for 30 minutes before rolling to help maintain shapes.
