Mushroom Swiss Burger

Ingredients
  

For the sautéed mushrooms

  • ½ cup butter Divided for cooking
  • 1 pound baby bella mushrooms Thick sliced
  • ½ medium shallot Minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced
  • Salt and pepper To taste

For the burgers

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef Use quality for better flavor
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns For serving
  • Butter for toasting buns
  • Mayonnaise For serving

Instructions
 

Preparation of the mushrooms

  • In a frying pan, melt half of the butter over medium heat.
  • Add sliced mushrooms, minced shallot, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Cook for about 5-7 minutes until mushrooms are tender and golden brown.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.

Cooking the burger

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt and pepper.
  • Form the mixture into four patties.
  • In a clean frying pan or on the grill, cook patties over medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  • Place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking so it melts.

Serving the burger

  • Serve hot on toasted hamburger buns.
  • Spread mayonnaise on the buns and add sautéed mushrooms on top of the melted cheese.

Notes

To store leftovers, keep cooked patties and mushrooms in separate airtight containers in the fridge for up to 3 days. They can also be frozen for a month.
