Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter Generously butter the pan.
  • 2.5 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 14-oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla Add at the end of cooking.

Preparation

  • Generously butter a 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan and set aside.
  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup of butter.
  • Once melted, add 2 ½ cups of packed brown sugar, 1 cup of light corn syrup, and 1 (14-oz) can of sweetened condensed milk. Mix well.

Cooking

  • Microwave the mixture on full power for 4-5 minutes.
  • Remove from microwave and stir. Continue microwaving for another 4-5 minutes.
  • Stir again and add 1 tsp of vanilla.
  • Pour the caramel into the buttered pan and let it cool completely for 1-2 hours.
  • Once cooled, cut the caramel with a knife and wrap each piece in wax paper.

Notes

To keep caramels fresh, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
