Ingredients
  

For the Beef

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

For Serving

  • 2 cups hot cooked white or brown rice
  • Sliced green onions and sesame seeds For garnish

Instructions
 

Cooking the Beef

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and minced garlic over medium heat. Break the beef into crumbles until it is no longer pink. Drain any grease.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, ground ginger, red pepper flakes, and pepper.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked ground beef. Let it simmer for another minute or two to blend the flavors.

Serving

  • Serve the beef over hot rice and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Consider adding steamed vegetables or a side of kimchi for an extra touch of authentic Korean flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
