Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Create a well in the middle of the dry ingredients and pour the buttermilk into the center.
  • Mix the dough together using your hands or a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Dump the dough onto a lightly floured surface and bring it together just until it forms a round shape.

Baking

  • Place the loaf on a parchment-lined baking sheet. With a knife, score the top of the loaf in an 'X'.
  • Place it in the oven and bake for 35-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Take the loaf out of the oven and allow it to cool for at least 10 minutes before cutting into it.

Notes

Store Irish Soda Bread wrapped in a clean kitchen towel, will stay fresh for about 2 days. Sliced bread can be frozen for up to 3 months.
