Homemade Twix Bars

Delightful homemade treat combining crunchy cookie, creamy caramel, and rich chocolate.

Ingredients
  

Cookie Layer

  • 1.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.67 cups butter softened

Caramel Layer

  • 2 cups caramel candies such as Kraft, unwrapped
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream

Chocolate Layer

  • 2 cups chocolate chips milk or dark
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or coconut oil to thin out chocolate

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Combine the flour and sugar in a medium-sized bowl. Cut the butter in with a pastry cutter or two forks until it forms a crumb mixture.
  • Press this mixture down into the pan and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.

Caramel Layer

  • Melt the caramel and cream in 30-second intervals in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring in between until smooth.
  • Pour the caramel over the cooled crust and set in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to chill and firm up.

Chocolate Layer

  • Melt the chocolate slowly in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Add a tablespoon of shortening to thin it out if desired.
  • Pour evenly over the chilled caramel layer and spread to cover all of the caramel.

Serving

  • Cut the Homemade Twix Bars into small squares or bars and serve them on a nice plate.

Notes

Store in an airtight container. For longer freshness, refrigerate. You may customize with different chocolates or nuts.
