Ingredients

For the marinade

  • cup melted unsalted butter
  • cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soy sauce
  • 4 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 piece lime zest Zest from half a lime
  • 2 large cloves crushed garlic

For the fish

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets (6 ounces each)
  • Salt and pepper To taste
  • Oil for grilling
  • Lime slices For garnish
  • Chopped cilantro For garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • Season the salmon fillets generously with salt and pepper.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, honey, soy sauce, lime juice, lime zest, and crushed garlic. Reserve 1-2 tablespoons of this sauce to brush on the salmon once it’s done cooking.
  • Marinate the salmon in the remaining sauce for at least 30 minutes before grilling.
  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.

Grilling

  • For salmon with grill marks, place the salmon skin-side down directly on the grill.
  • If you prefer, you can also use foil packs for grilling by placing the salmon and a little marinade in the foil and sealing it.
  • Grill the salmon until it flakes easily with a fork, usually about 4-6 minutes per side.
  • Once cooked, brush with the reserved sauce and serve.

Notes

Make sure not to over-marinate the salmon, as the acidity from the lime can start to 'cook' the fish. Use a well-oiled grill to prevent sticking. Choose fresh salmon fillets for the best flavor and texture. You can customize the marinade by adding fresh herbs or a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.
