Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a medium-sized skillet, heat oil for frying to medium-high heat or 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Slice 2 large onions into rings measuring ¼ inch in thickness.
  • In a small bowl, combine 1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon baking powder.
  • In another bowl, whisk together 3 large eggs.
  • In a third bowl, combine 2 cups panko, ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, 1 teaspoon paprika, and ½ teaspoon garlic powder.

Breading

  • Dip each onion ring first in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and lastly in the panko mixture. Repeat with all onion rings.

Frying

  • Add the coated onion rings to the hot oil and fry until golden brown.
  • Place the fried onion rings on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Serving

  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra flavor, soak onion rings in buttermilk for an hour before breading. Ensure the oil is hot enough; otherwise, onion rings may turn out soggy. Experiment with different coatings such as crushed chips or seasoned breadcrumbs.
