Main Ingredients
- 2 pounds fresh green beans trimmed
- 12 ounces bacon cut into 1-inch pieces
Sauce Ingredients
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar packed
- 6 tablespoon soy sauce low-sodium if preferred
- 1/4 cup butter melted
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
As Needed
- water for blanching and rinsing the beans
Prepare
Heat the oven to 400°F. Boil trimmed fresh beans in water for 2–3 minutes until bright green; drain, briefly rinse cold, and dry well.
Cook bacon pieces in a skillet over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, stirring, until browned and crisp. Drain the pieces and discard the rendered grease.
Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, soy sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss with the beans in a 9-by-13-inch baking dish.
Bake
Bake for about 20 minutes, stirring halfway, until the beans are nearly tender and coated with sauce.
Scatter cooked bacon over the beans and bake for about 5 minutes more until beans are tender. Divide into 6 portions and spoon pan sauce over each.
- Refrigerate promptly in a covered container at 40°F or below; use within 3 days.
- Reheat leftovers to 165°F, adding a splash of water if needed.
