Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 pieces Russet potatoes Choose medium to large potatoes for best results.
  • 8 oz sour cream Use full-fat for a creamier texture.
  • 8 oz cheddar cheese Shredded or cubed, according to preference.
  • 2 oz salted butter Add more or less depending on taste.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly to remove dirt.
  • Poke each potato several times with a fork to help steam escape while cooking.
  • Wrap each potato in heavy-duty aluminum foil, ensuring they are tightly sealed.

Cooking

  • Place the wrapped potatoes in the hot coals of the campfire.
  • Cook for about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the heat of the fire, turning the potatoes occasionally for even cooking.
  • Carefully remove the potatoes from the fire using tongs.
  • Let them cool for a few minutes before unwrapping.
  • Once unwrapped, cut a slit in each potato and add sour cream, cheddar cheese, and butter to taste.

Notes

Serve hot and fresh off the fire, either on their own or as a side dish with grilled meats. If you have leftovers, they can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving. Experiment with toppings like bacon, green onions, or spices for added flavor.
