  • 4 ears ears of corn, husks removed and halved Choose fresh, sweet corn for the best flavor.
  • 6 cups water Enough to cover the corn.
  • 1 cup milk Adds creaminess but can be omitted.
  • 1/2 cup butter For coating after boiling.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Enhances sweetness.
  • 2 teaspoons salt For seasoning the boiling water.

  • In a large pot, bring about 6 cups of water to a boil.
  • Once the water is boiling, add in the milk, butter, sugar, and salt. Stir to combine.
  • Slowly lower the corn into the water.
  • Boil the corn for 5 minutes or until tender. The corn will turn bright yellow and be tender when pierced with a knife.
  • Remove the corn using tongs from the boiling water.
  • Top with salt, pepper, and any desired toppings before serving.

Notes

Corn on the cob is best served hot with toppings such as butter, salt, and pepper. Store leftovers in the refrigerator wrapped in plastic wrap or in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat by steaming or microwaving.
