Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • ¼ cup bread crumbs (1 slice of bread made into bread crumbs)
  • ½ cup onion (finely diced)
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup light brown sugar

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (175°C).
  • In a small bowl, mix the ketchup and light brown sugar to create the glaze.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, whole milk, barbecue sauce, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, sea salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish.
  • Spread the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, or until the center reaches 160°F (70°C).

Serving

  • Let the meatloaf rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.

Storage

  • To store leftover meatloaf, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and place it in the refrigerator. It will stay fresh for up to 3 days. You can also freeze it for longer storage, wrapped well to avoid freezer burn, for up to 3 months.

Notes

Don't overmix the meat mixture; this can make the meatloaf tough. Add a variety of spices or herbs to customize the flavor. For extra flavor, try mixing in diced bell peppers or mushrooms. You can replace ground beef with turkey or chicken, or add cheese or different sauces for a new twist.
