Ingredients

Bread

  • 1 pound brioche bread (or French bread) Cut into cubes

Egg Mixture

  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Topping

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter Cubed

Instructions

Preparation

  • Cut the brioche or French bread into cubes and place in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, white sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring all the bread is soaked. Press down lightly to help absorb.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

Baking

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon. Sprinkle over the soaked bread and dot with cubed butter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding chocolate chips or nuts. Stale bread works better for absorption, making a fluffier casserole. Let sit for a few minutes after baking to set before serving.
