Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 large large apple Choose a firm variety like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 package Crescent rolls Can also use puff pastry or pie crust.
  • 0.5 cup butter
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 pinch cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces Sprite For pouring over dumplings.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9x9 inch baking dish with pan spray and set aside.
  • Peel and core the large apple. Slice it into 8 equal pieces.
  • Wrap each apple slice in one section of the Crescent rolls dough, starting from the wide end.
  • Lay the wrapped apple slices in the prepared baking dish, leaving about 1 inch of space between each dumpling.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, add butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Heat over medium heat until it becomes thick and bubbly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour the butter and sugar mixture over the dumplings, ensuring each one is covered.
  • Pour the Sprite into the pan, being careful not to pour it directly on top of the dumplings.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the dumplings are a deep golden brown and the liquid has thickened into a syrup.
  • Serve warm, preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

To store leftovers, let them cool completely, then place in an airtight container. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven at a low temperature. For added crunch, sprinkle chopped nuts before baking.
