  • 2 large large apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour Substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 1 large large egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Substitute with gluten-free panko if needed.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • as needed Nonstick cooking spray

Preparation

  • Peel (optional) and cut apples into fry-like sticks. Pat dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
  • Set up coating stations: Bowl 1 for flour, Bowl 2 for whisked egg and milk, Bowl 3 for panko breadcrumbs mixed with sugar and cinnamon.
  • Dredge each apple stick in flour, dip into the egg mixture, then coat well with the breadcrumb mixture.

Cooking

  • Lightly spray coated apple fries with nonstick spray. Place in the air fryer basket in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
  • Air fry at 380°F (190°C) for 7-9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Serving

  • Enjoy warm with caramel dip, yogurt, or whipped cream.

Notes

Make sure to pat the apple sticks dry before coating them to ensure a crispy texture. Experiment with different types of apples and add other spices like nutmeg or clove for extra flavor.
